FROM THE DIRECTOR - PAM DEAN CABLE

Winter here in the Rockies arrived before the aspen leaves had fallen. We are now experiencing our 3rd snow of 12 inches or more.  By the looks of all this it could be a long winter and a good opportunity for artists to hunker down in the studio bringing all that reference from our 10th anniversary workshop in Dubois, WY to life.  See some of the event details in the On The Home Front section and online at susankblackfoundation.org.

In appreciation for  history of our plein air painting area around Dubois, this issue features an article on the Basque influence on the area, adding to our location history lessons in previous issues.  Be sure to read the fun article by Bill Knapp on the acquisition of Basque puppy, Boo. In addition, read the fun article on Boo, the Basque dog, (the breed is now called the Australian Shepherd, or Aussie), written by his owner, Bill Knapp.

As always SKB artists are busy having adventures, writing books and winning awards.  Check up on a few of them, then send us your own news.

Carol Santora continues to educate us on Pastels, so be sure to read this next installment.  By the end of this series you’ll want to try your hand at this beautiful medium if you haven’t already.

Our 10th anniversary workshop was honored in September by the presence of renowned painter and master portrait artist, Everett Raymond Kinstler.  You may follow our site link for more photos and information of his portrait demo of SKB Chairman of the Board, Jim Parkman.  As we ease into the winter months we can all take pleasure in the memories we made this year together.  Thank you.  pdc
